Morphological filtering on graphs

چکیده
We study some basic morphological operators acting on the lattice of all subgraphs of an arbitrary (unweighted) graph G. To this end, we consider two dual adjunctions between the edge set and the vertex set of G. This allows us (i) to recover the classical notion of a dilation/erosion of a subset of the vertices of G and (ii) to extend it to subgraphs of G. Afterward, we propose several new openings, closings, granulometries and alternate filters acting (i) on the subsets of the edge and vertex set of G and (ii) on the subgraphs of G. The proposed framework is then extended to functions that weight the vertices and edges of a graph. We illustrate with applications to binary and grayscale image denoising, for which, on the provided images, the proposed approach outperforms the usual one based on structuring elements.

Introduction to the Issue on Filtering and Segmentation With Mathematical Morphology
This issue presents novel contributions and introduces the state-of-art in filtering and segmentation methods using mathematical morphology. Historically, mathematical morphology developed a theoretical framework for non-linear image analysis, which from its inception led to important theoretical and practical results. Due to its algebraic foundation and geometrical intuition, the theory of mat...
متن کاملShape-Based Analysis on Component-Graphs for Multivalued Image Processing
The extension of mathematical morphology to multivalued images is an important issue. This is particularly true in the context of connected operators based on morphological hierarchies, which aim to provide efficient image filtering and segmentation tools in various application fields, e.g.(bio)medical imaging, remote sensing, or astronomy. In this article, we propose a preliminary study that d...
متن کاملPresenting a Morphological Based Approach for Filtering The Point Cloud to Extract the Digital Terrain Model
The Digital terrain model is an important geospatial product used as the basis of many practical projects related to geospatial information. Nowadays, a dense point cloud can be generated using the LiDAR data. Actually, the acquired point cloud of the LiDAR, presents a digital surface model that contains ground and non-ground objects. The purpose of this paper is to present a new approach of ex...
متن کاملParameterless Discrete Regularization on Graphs for Color Image Filtering
A discrete regularization framework on graphs is proposed and studied for color image filtering purposes when images are represented by grid graphs. Image filtering is considered as a variational problem which consists in minimizing an appropriate energy function. In this paper, we propose a general discrete regularization framework defined on weighted graphs which can be seen as a discrete ana...
متن کاملSampling, Filtering and Sparse Approximations on Combinatorial Graphs
In this paper we address sampling and approximation of functions on combinatorial graphs. We develop filtering on graphs by using Schrodinger’s group of operators generated by combinatorial Laplace operator. Then we construct a sampling theory by proving Poincare and Plancherel-Polya-type inequalities for functions on graphs. These results lead to a theory of sparse approximations on graphs and...
متن کاملScaling Collaborative Filtering to Large-Scale Bipartite Rating Graphs Using Lenskit and Spark
Popular social networking applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Friendster, etc. generate very large graphs with different characteristics. These social networks are huge, comprising millions of nodes and edges that push existing graph mining algorithms and architectures to their limits. In product-rating graphs, users connect with each other and rate items in tandem. In such bipartite graphs...
